Why SEO Blogging is the Heart of a Healthy Marketing Funnel

seo blogging

You can have the most beautiful website and the most polished Instagram feed, but if no one finds you online, it doesn’t matter.

That’s where SEO blogging comes in.

I recently sat down with Mark D. Williams on The Curious Builder Podcast to talk about sales funnels for builders and designers. We kept coming back to the same point: awareness is great, but if you don’t have a way to guide people from discovery to actually reaching out, you’re left with what I like to call a “broken funnel.”

Mark put it this way:

“You can have a fantastic website and an active Instagram, but if you don’t have a strategy that takes people down the funnel, it’s just throwing spaghetti at the wall.”

So, how do you fix it? Let’s walk through what actually works.

Step 1: Awareness with Pinterest

At the very top of your funnel is awareness. This is simply people realizing you exist.

Instagram and TikTok are great for community, but they thrive on trends. If you want consistent, long-term discovery, Pinterest is your best tool. It’s not just a social platform, it’s a search engine.

On the podcast, I explained it like this:

“What I love about Pinterest is that 98% of searches are unbranded. People aren’t typing in a specific builder’s name. They’re searching for ideas like ‘modern mountain home kitchen’ or ‘lake house entryway.’ That means you can show up exactly when someone is dreaming about a project like yours.”

Pinterest gets people to your website, but that’s just the start.

Step 2: Nurture with SEO Blogging

This is where the magic happens. Once people click through from Pinterest or Google, blogging for SEO is what turns their curiosity into trust.

A blog post isn’t filler text. It’s where you answer the exact questions your future clients are already typing into search, and it’s where you prove you’re the expert they should trust.

Blogs:

  • Educate clients on timelines, costs, and design choices

  • Build your authority in a natural, conversational way

  • Keep people on your site longer, which helps you rank higher

When Mark pulled back from blogging and Pinterest for a few months, he saw a dramatic drop in traffic.

“We turned it off and it was like draining a bathtub. Website visits fell by 50 to 60 percent. And when we turned it back on, it took months to fill that bathtub back up again.”

That’s the power of consistency. SEO blogging isn’t about quick wins, it’s about long-term momentum that keeps your funnel healthy.

Step 3: Conversion with Email

Finally, once someone has discovered you through Pinterest and connected with you through a blog, you need a way to stay in touch. That’s where email comes in.

Email is the closer. A simple opt-in on your site captures people who already want to hear from you. A monthly newsletter or welcome sequence keeps you top of mind until they’re ready to take the next step.

Mark asked if buying a big email list could be a shortcut. My response was simple:

“You can buy lists, but you’ll just end up with a bunch of people who don’t want to hear from you. The whole point is to build a list of warm, qualified leads who signed up because they actually care about what you’re saying.”

Email isn’t about blasting strangers. It’s about nurturing relationships with people who already raised their hand.

The Hourglass Funnel

One of my favorite moments in the conversation was when Mark said:

“It’s not just a funnel, it’s an hourglass. You bring clients down through the funnel, then once they’ve worked with you, it flips and they become your biggest advocates. They either come back or they send others your way.”

That’s the goal of everything we do at Olive & Vine. Pinterest brings people in. SEO blogging nurtures their trust. Email closes the loop and keeps the relationship alive so the cycle can repeat again and again.

The Takeaway

If your marketing feels scattered — a little Instagram here, a blog post there — you’re not alone. But when you connect the dots with a full funnel, everything changes.

At Olive & Vine, we help builders, designers, and architects create SEO-driven blogs, evergreen Pinterest strategies, and thoughtful email campaigns that actually work together. The result is more visibility, more trust, and more qualified leads.

Because the truth is, your dream clients aren’t just scrolling. They’re searching. And when they search, we’ll make sure they find you.
